Blog 5. More ideas

I'm starting to think more broadly about the topic of movement. The movement of time and space, the body through space and time. The movement of the sun rising according to time and how we see ourselves in the day and time our day due to the sunlight.

Idea of beginning with a pocket watch ticking and swinging in the screen, the steady ticking sound echoing out - something to continue throughout and add into the soundtrack. Thinking about images of the sun dials and different ways of representing time. How the sun moves in the sky and how that moves on the sundial .... link that into how our bodies move throughout the day and the different parts of our body that enable us to do that.

**** Some inspiration i've found on 18/11/14 is on this vimeo clip. I love the aesthetic look it has and that kinda of partial sepia filter looks good ! The slow motion ties in well with work I have done surrounding time lapse. This partially narrative piece with the measurements thrown in throughout are a really nice idea too, I can use that maybe to incorporate time within. Counting down the seconds of my piece with my pocket watch .... someone physically displaying time ticking down, every 30-45seconds the pocket watch could reappear and someone moves around it. Time and movement incorporated. The flickering of the video makes it appear like it has been filmed on an old film camera - again that would tie nicely in with my roman pocket watch. Keeping the appearance and aesthetic going. Time has obviously been going on for billions of years.

Blog 4. Videos

Some videos for inspiration and explanation.

I found this motion capture technique and idea really interesting. Some other ideas to stay playing with now.

More relevant to dance, but interesting concepts again about movement.

This was an exhibition which i missed but I have visited the website which has turned out to be really interesting and explanatory.

Blog 3. More development 31/10/2014

Thinking more about the idea of the Helix and DNA - trying to source a book that explains it more simply for me.

Helix is who you are, it is what makes you, you.

The movement of the Helix strands and your DNA in your blood, in your body, circulation, and to your limbs, and the final result being human body movement.

Time Lapse - experimentation will happen on tuesday/wednesday 4th/5th November as I have booked photography equipment out to get the hang of time lapse in photography. If i get some good shots I can try and use them in my work. I will be experimenting with Water and how that falls, what I can capture, cars moving on the street below me. etc.

Results from experiment:

Thinking of creating a non-narrative piece. Something quite elegant and peaceful to watch, emotive. Still to contact school of music students to help me compose music to my piece.

The style of music i'm considering is:

Blog 2. Going further 13/10/2014

Looking further into my ideas and the imagery/concepts i'm considering, I met with John Edmonds to discuss further ideas. He mentioned Haiku, a Japanese Poetry.

Haiku - Short poems that use sensory language to capture a feeling or image. They are often inspired by an element of nature, a moment of beauty or a poignant experience. It was originally developed by Japanese poets.

Another idea that came out of the meeting was Art Therapy - expression movement, thoughts feelings and memories can be expressed through making art. A colour, shape or texture can express things that are difficult to put into words.

The idea of the DNA Helix has come to mind as the foundation of my work - the basis in which i return to throughout my work. The idea of the DNA Helix making up your body and who you are, and without that you wouldn't be able to generate movement as you wouldn't be you. - need to define more and look into if i consider using it.

The helix could be an interesting starting point - making it and navigating it around the screen, moulding it into something such as dance and somebody dancing. Showing that it makes up all of someone.

Eurythmy is an expressive movement art originated by Rudolf Steiner in conjunction with Marie von Sivers in the early 20th century. Primarily a performance art, it is also used in education, especially in Waldorf schools, and – as part of anthroposophic medicine – for claimed therapeutic purposes.

Lumiere Brothers - movement.

Dancing and creating movement without knowing it.

Me dancing at the beginning, silhouette and blend into something that is moving/creating shapes. e.g. people moving on Park Row. - minimal idea, where to go from there??!
